High-Vigor Seeds Associated with Seed Hardness and Water Absorption Rate in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract:
Seed physical properties are stable and visualized, and believed to be reference indicators for screening
high-vigor seeds. However, the detailed relationship between seed vigor and its physical properties is not
fully understood in rice. To elucidate the relationship mentioned above, seed physical properties such as
seed size, hardness, and water absorption rate, and seed vigor indicators including germination rate,
salt-stressed germination rate, and drought-stressed germination rate were determined among different rice
cultivars. Significant differences in seed vigor indicators and seed physical properties were recorded among
different rice cultivars. Germination rate, salt-stressed germination rate, drought-stressed germination rate,
seed hardness, and water absorption rate ranged from 32.0 ± 1.7% to 99.7 ± 0.3%, 14.4 ± 2.4% to 99.7 ± 0.3%,
3.3 ± 2.6% to 95.7 ± 2.1%, 69.15 ± 0.15 N to 74.56 ± 0.14 N, and 0.09 ± 0.00 g/h to 0.12 ± 0.00 g/h,
respectively. Additionally, correlation analysis showed that seed hardness and water absorption rate were
significantly positively related to seed vigor (r = 0.33 **-0.41 **, from 2014 to 2016; r = 0.45 **-0.65 **,
in 2021). Moreover, principal component analysis determined that the first principal component explained 91.4%,
90.1%, and 89.9% of the variance of seed physical properties, respectively, and loaded on seed hardness and
water absorption rate. These results indicate that seed hardness and water absorption rate can be recommended
as efficient indicators for screening rice seeds with high vigor. |

Effects of Seed Priming on Vitality and Preservation of Pepper Seeds

Abstract:
Seed priming is a method for improving seed vigor, which can improve seed germinability, but the disappearance
of positive priming effects and decrease of seed longevity during storage may limit its application. To determine
the effect of priming on hot pepper seeds and the time during which priming effects can be maintained, it is necessary
to monitor and study the variability of primed seeds during storage. In this study, several priming treatments with 3%
KNO3, 20% PEG, or 3% KNO3 + 20% PEG and up to 8 months of storage of primed seeds were conducted on seeds of pepper
strains No.63, No.73, and No.101. Germinability was improved by priming treatment. The germination percentage of primed
seeds did not vary compared to non-primed ones, seeds germinated quickly and had strengthened emergence, especially for
those primed with 3% KNO3 solution, which germinated significantly faster and the seedlings grew stronger. During the
8-month storage process, the beneficial effects of priming disappear after 6 months, beyond which the performance of
primed seeds is worse than non-primed seeds. After 8 months of storage, the viability of primed pepper seeds dropped
sharply. In general, preservation at -4 °C can retain the priming effects to the greatest degree and prevent the seed
from losing viability for up to 6 months. Resistance to aging differed across varieties, with No.101 pepper seeds more
resistant to aging than the other two varieties, regardless of priming treatment. |

Evaluation of Industrial Hemp Seed Treatments for Management of Damping-Off for Enhanced Stand Establishment

Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to collect efficacy data on biological, biochemical, and chemical fungicide
seed treatments on hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) to mitigate damping-off and enhance field stand establishment.
Seed treatments were evaluated in fields in New York (NY), North Dakota (ND), and Virginia (VA) and at two planting
dates in each state in 2020. A single seed lot of a dual-purpose (fiber + grain) cultivar (‘Anka’) was treated
using a laboratory-scale rotary pan coater. Five biological, two biochemical, and four chemical seed treatments
were tested. A laboratory germination test revealed that seed treatments did not exhibit phytotoxicity when compared
to the non-treated control. A laboratory bioassay with naturally infested soil was used to assess the preliminary
activity of seed treatments for protection against damping-off. The biochemical seed treatment Ultim® (active
ingredient; organic copper) performed as well as the chemical treatments Apron XL® + Maxim® 4FS and Mertect® 340F
in preventing damping-off whereas the biological treatments did not differ from the non-treated control in terms of
disease incidence. In all field tests, biological seed treatments did not improve plant stands compared to the
non-treated control. Biochemical seed treatments Prudent 44® with Nutrol® (active ingredient; phosphite) and
Ultim®, along with chemical seed treatments, had acceptable efficacy and improved stand establishment compared to
the non-treated control across field locations. Based on efficacy results from laboratory and field trials, the
copper seed treatment has potential for both conventional and organic hemp production. |

President of the Seed Association of Thailand has jointly signed a letter with other 3
associations dated 25 June 2020 which has made to the Chairman of the Extraordinary Committee
Consider the Impact of Entering into the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-pacific Partnership
(CPTPP).
They have a consensus that Participation in the International Convention for the Protection of
New Plant Varieties (UPOV 1991) will benefit the development of plant varieties in Thailand.
Along with increasing good choices in plant varieties and seed for Thai farmers both in quality
and quantity of produce, right to save seed and the right seed price through the market mechanism
with farmers as an important part.

staying home for a long time to stop the pandemic of COVID 19 for the nation.
Today (19 June 2020) she has to drive from home to Miracle Grand Convention Hotel
to join the seminar titled "CPTPP: Is Thailand Agriculture really disadvantage?
The seminar organized by the Thai Seed Trade Association and The Asia and Pacific
Seed Association (APSA) with Thidaun san-udom, former talented student of Department
of Field Crops, KU, current Director of Plant Variety Protection Research Group, Plant
Variety Protection Office, Department of Agriculture, participated in the talk with many
other speakers, moderated by Mrs Narakorn Tiyanon, alumni of the Faculty of Agriculture.
Discussion results concluded that Thailand agriculture is not disadvantaged. Details
and conclusions will be posted on the websites by the two associations or follow on

News from THASTA: THASTA gets Observer Status in ISF
Thai Seed Trade Association was recently accepted as a member of the International
Seed Federation (ISF) and granted an Observer status for two years by its Board of
Directors.
ISF Secretary-General Michael Keller said, This marks the starting point of our
fruitful, efficient, open, and long-term partnership. In his letter to Thasta
President Dr. Chairerg Sagwansupyakorn, Mr. Keller also sent an invitation to join
the ISF National/Regional Seed Association Call on 9 July.
Thasta will now have direct access to different parts of the members’ area of the ISF
and be kept informed of the latest activities and industry developments..

Institute of Future Studies for Development (IFD) had held a seminar titled
"Thai agricultural policy: where should go?" on June 24, 2019 to disseminate the results
of the research project. The title of that project is "Measuring the size of the broad
impact of agricultural policies and implications on the Thai agricultural development
strategy: Analysis by general equilibrium model and household microstructure simulation".
It was conducted by Ajarn Taweechai Charoensertsilp, Institute's research director and
the research team funded by Office of the Scientific Promotion Committee Research and

World Vegetable Center - East and Southeast Asia based in Thailand
together with Kasetsart University and Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, Council of Agriculture
have a joint project on Tomato Varietal Testing for disease resistance and heat tolerance.
Period of testing is during November, 2018 to April, 2019 at Kamphaengsan Campus, Nakhon Prathom Province.
World Vegetable Center is going to host the open field day on February 21, 2019 aiming to invite any person from
seed companies in Thailand who are interested in tomato varieties from Taiwan to join this
event from 09:30 am - 12.30 pm.

ประเทศทาจิกิสถาน ต้องการสร้างความร่วมมือทางด้านเทคโนโลยีเมล็ดพันธุ์กับประเทศมาเลเซีย
ข่าวจากกรุงกัวลาลำเปอร์ เมื่อวันที่ 10 ธันวาคม 2559 ระบุว่า ประเทศทาจิกิสถาน ต้องการสร้างความร่วมมือทางด้านเทคโนโลยีเมล็ดพันธุ์กับประเทศมาเลเซีย โดยทั้งสองประเทศสามารถที่จะหาโอกาสในการผลิตเมล็ดพันธุ์ที่ได้มาจากพันธุ์ดั้งเดิมของมาเลเซียและของทาจิกิสถาน
นาย Muhammadi Muzaffar Munawalzod ซึ่งเป็นเอกอัครราชทูตทาจิกิสถานประจำมาเลเซีย กล่าวว่า ทั้ง 2 ประเทศมีไม้ผลเหมือนๆ กัน แม้ว่าจะมีความแตกต่างกันบ้างในด้านรสชาติและรูปร่าง
ดังนั้น อาจเริ่มต้นความร่วมมือที่ต้นพลับ (Persimmon) ซึ่งจะได้ประโยชน์ทั้ง 2 ประเทศ และประเทศอื่นๆ
"การเกษตรของประเทศมาเลเซียได้พัฒนาแล้ว และเราสามารถร่วมมือกันได้ในหลายๆ ด้าน โดยในด้านเทคโนโลยีเมล็ดพันธุ์น่าจะเป็นโปรแกรมความร่วมมือโปรแกรมแรกระหว่าง 2 ประเทศ”

ขอเรียนเชิญเข้าร่ วมประชุมเพื่อสร้างความเข้าใจและเสริมสร้างความร่วมมือในการดำเนินงานเผยแพร่ข้อมูลข่าวสารด้านความปลอดภัยทางชีวภาพตามพันธกรณีพิธีสารคาร์ตาเฮนาว่าด้วยความปลอดภัยทางชีวภาพ ครั้งที่ 1 และ 2 ภายใต้โครงการพัฒนาเครื่องมือ กลไก การจัดการความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ และอนุวัตอนุสัญญาว่าด้วยความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ (เจ้าของโครงการ คือ สำนักงานนโยบายและแผนทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม (สผ.) กระทรวงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ได้มอบหมายให้บริษัท ยูไนเต็ด แอนนาลิสต์ แอนด์ เอ็นจิเนียริ่ง คอนซัลแตนท์ จำกัด เป็นที่ปรึกษาในการดำเนินโครงการฯ)
การประชุมจะขึ้นในวันที่ 8 และ 15 พฤศจิกายน 2559 ระหว่างเวลา 08.30-16.00 น. ณ ห้องประชุมเรนโบว์ ชั้น 17 โรงแรมใบหยกสกาย 2 กรุงเทพฯ รายละเอียดกำหนดการดังไฟล์แนบ โดยผู้สนใจเข้าร่วมการประชุมสามารถส่งแบบตอบรับตามสิ่งที่ส่งมาด้วย 2 ภายในวันศุกร์ที่ 4 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2559 และขอสงวนสิทธิ์การเข้าร่วมอบรม เฉพาะผู้ส่งแบบตอบรับ จำนวน 30 ท่านแรกเท่านั้น

ข่าวจาก สภาหอการค้าแห่งประเทศไทย

ด้วยกรมทรัพย์สินทางปัญญาจะจัดสัมมนาหัวข้อเรื่อง "โอกาสผู้ประกอบการไทยในยุค Thailand 4.0 ภายใต้แผนปฏิบัติการด้านสินทางปัญญาอาเซียน ปี 2559-2568" ในวันพุธที่ 14 ธันวาคม 2559 ณ โรงแรมฮอลิเดย์ อินน์ กรุงเทพฯ สุขุมวิท 22 โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อให้ผู้ประกอบการและผู้ส่งออกหรือผู้มีส่วนเสียที่เกี่ยวข้องกับทรัพย์สินทางปัญญาทราบถึงแผนปฏิบัติการด้านทรัพย์สินทางปัญญาอาเซียน ปี 2559-2568 และความสำคัญในบทบาทของทรัพย์สินทางปัญญาและการใช้ประโยชน์ในเชิงพาณิชย์ โดยกรมทรัพย์สินทางปัญญาได้เชิญผู้ประกอบการและประชาชนผู้สนใจเข้าร่วมรวม 250 คน กำหนดการสัมมนาฯตามสิ่งที่ส่งมาด้วย

|
ด้วยสวทช. ได้ประสานกับโครงการศูนย์ถ่ ายทอดเทคโนโลยีจีน – อาเซียน เพื่อจัดให้มีการศึกษาดูงาน Guangdong Seed Expo ในระหว่างวันที่ 9-13 ธันวาคม 2559 โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์หลายประการดั งนี้
1. เพื่อเข้าร่วมดูงาน field day การสร้างเครือข่าย เพื่อใช้เป็นต้นแบบสำหรั บการวางแผนจัดงานดังกล่ าวในประเทศไทยในช่วงต้นปี 2017 ต่อไป
2. เพื่อให้ภาคเอกชนได้เห็นศั กยภาพของพันธุ์ต่างๆ ที่ปลูกโชว์ (field day) ซึ่งเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการนำมาเป็น benchmark สำหรับการพัฒนาพันธุ์พืชของบริ ษัทต่อไป
3. การจัดให้มีการทำ business matching กับบริษัทเมล็ดพันธุ์ของจีน ซึ่งในเบื้องต้นอาจเป็ นการทำความรู้จักกันก่อน หลังจากนั้นอาจเป็นการสร้ างโอกาสให้ท่านสามารถทำ business matching ร่วมกันต่อไป
สวทช. ได้รับการสนับสนุ นงบประมาณจากโครงการศูนย์ถ่ ายทอดเทคโนโลยีจีน - อาเซียน จากกระทรวงวิทยาศาสตร์ ซึ่งสามารถสนับสนุ นภาคเอกชนในการเข้าร่วมงานดั งกล่าว บริษัทละไม่เกิน 2 ท่าน (5 วัน 4 คืน) โดยเป็นค่าใช้จ่ายดังนี้ 1. ค่าที่พัก (จำนวน 4 คืน) 2. ค่า local transportation ในจีน สำหรับค่าวีซ่า และค่าตั๋วเครื่องบินในการเดิ นทางขอให้บริษัทฯ รับผิดชอบเองค่ะ
ในการนี้ขอให้บริษัทส่งเอกสารดั งนี้

ข่าวจากสมาคมการค้าเมล็ดพันธุ์ไทย
|
ตามที่กรมวิชาการเกษตร ได้มีมาตรการบังคับใช้กฎหมายตาม พรบ.พันธุ์พืช โดยการสุ่มตรวจเมล็ดพันธุ์จากร้านค้า และหลายครั้งพบว่าผลการตรวจสอบคุณภาพเมล็ดพันธุ์มีอัตราความงอกต่ำกว่าที่กฎหมายกำหนด ทั้งที่เมล็ดพันธุ์ยังไม่หมดอายุตามที่ผู้รวบรวมระบุไว้บนฉลาก เป็นเหตุให้บริษัทผู้ผลิตต้องถูกดำเนินคดีในข้อหาจำหน่ายเมล็ดพันธุ์เสื่อมคุณภาพ ซึ่งสาเหตุหนึ่งอาจเกิดจากการกำหนดอายุการใช้เมล็ดพันธุ์โดยมิได้คำนึงถึง สภาพแวดล้อมที่เป็นจริงของการเก็บรักษาเมล็ดพันธุ์ในร้านค้าซึ่งแตกต่างกันไป และแตกต่างจากการเก็บรักษาที่ถูกต้อง
สมาคมฯ ได้เชิญผู้แทนบริษัทสมาชิกที่มีหน้าที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการตรวจสอบคุณภาพเมล็ดพันธุ์ ร่วมประชุมหารือเพื่อกำหนดมาตรฐานอายุของเมล็ดพันธุ์บนฉลาก และทำข้อตกลงร่วมกันในการกำหนดอายุการใช้เมล็ดพันธุ์ ที่จำหน่ายในประเทศไทย เพื่อลดความเสี่ยงจากการเสื่อมคุณภาพของเมล็ดพันธุ์จากการเก็บรักษาที่ไม่เหมาะสมในระหว่างการจัดจำหน่าย

ที่เหลือเป็นส่วนของบริเวณจัดนิทรรศการ บริเวนจัดบูท
และบริเวณจัดแสดงผลงาน/โปสเตอร์
3. ที่ประชุมขอให้สมาคมฯ ที่เป็น
คณะทำงาน ช่วยประชาสัมพันธ์งาน และหากมีเว็บไซท์

4. ในส่วนนิทรรศการจะเปิดให้ public

ข่าวจากการประชุมทางวิชาการเมล็ดพันธุ์พืชแห่งชาติ ครั้งที่ 13 จังหวัดสุรินทร์

สืบเนื่องจากการประชุมทางวิชาการเมล็ดพันธุ์พืชแห่งชาติ
ครั้งที่ 13 จังหวัดสุรินทร์
ซึ่งในระหว่างการประชุม ได้มีการคัดเลือกการนำเสนอผลงานวิจัยยอดนิยม
ทั้งภาคบรรยายและภาคโปสเตอร์ ซึ่งมีผลงานวิจัยที่ได้รับเลือกดังนี้
ผลงานวิจัยภาคบรรยาย
- ชนิดตัวทำละลายสกัดโปรตีน และช่วงค่า pH ที่เหมาะสมต่อการจำแนกพันธุ์พริก
โดยการวิเคราะห์โปรตีนในเมล็ดด้วยเทคนิค Ultrathin Layer Isoelectric Focusing
- ผลของวันปลูกที่มีต่อการเจริญเติบโต และคุณภาพของเมล็ดพันธุ์ถั่วอะซูกิ 3 พันธุ์
- ชนิดและแมลงศัตรูข้าวในเมล็ดพันธุ์ชั้นพันธุ์หลักเล็บนกปัตตานี
ที่เก็บรักษาในห้องที่ไม่มีการควบคุมอุณหภูมิและความชื้นสัมพัทธ์ ในภาคใต้ของประเทศไทย
ผลงานวิจัยภาคโปสเตอร์
- อิทธิพลของการเคลือบหลังการทำ seed priming ต่อคุณภาพเมล็ดพันธุ์มะเขือเทศลูดผสม
- การติดตามและประเมินคุณภาพเมล็ดพันธุ์ ที่ผลิตโดยเกษตรกร
และการถ่ายทอดเทคโนโลยี
- การคลายการพักตัวของเมล็ดพันธุ์ข้าวสังข์หยดพัทลุงในสภาพความชื้นสัมพัทธ์แตกต่างกัน

สืบเนื่องจากการประชุมทางวิชาการเมล็ดพันธุ์ืพชแห่งชาติ
ครั้งที่ 13 ณ มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลอีสาน
วิทยาเขตสุรินทร์ จังหวัดสุรินทร์
เมื่อวันที่ 21 - 25 มิถุนายน 2559 ฝ่ายจัดประชุม
ได้ทำการประเมินความพึงพอใจ
ของผู้เข้าร่วมประชุ ได้ผลดังนี้
- ความพึงพอใจในด้านการบรรยายพิเศษ
- ผู้เข้าร่วมประชุมมีความพึงพอใจในระดับมาก ในประเด็นต่อไปนี้คือ
1) หัวข้อการบรรยายพิเศษ มีประโยชน์และน่าสนใจ
2) วิทยากรบรรยายได้ชัดเจน ตรงประเด็น
3) ได้รับประโยชน์จากการฟังบรรยายในครั้งนี้
- ความพึงพอใจในด้านการนำเสนอผลงาน
- ผู้เข้าร่วมประชุมมีความพึงพอใจในระดับมาก ในประเด็นต่อไปนี้คือ
1) รูปแบบการนำเสนอแบบบรรยาย
2) รูบแบบการนำเสนอแบบโปสเตอร์
3) มีโอกาสซักถามและแสดงความคิดเห็น
4) สามารถนำความรู้ที่ได้รับไปประยุกต์ใช้ในการศึกษาและอาชีพได้
- ความพึงพอใจในด้านการดำเนินการประชุม
- ผู้เข้าร่วมประชุมมีความพึงพอใจในระดับมาก ในประเด็นต่อไปนี้คือ
1) การลงทะเบียน
2) เอกสารประกอบการประชุม
3) ระยะเวลาในการจัดประชุม
4) สถานที่จัดประชุมและการบรรยายพิเศษ
5) สถานที่เสนอผลงงานแบบโปสเตอร์
6) สถานที่เสนอผลงานแบบบรรยาย
7) การต้อนรับและอำนวยความสะดวกของผู้จัดประชุม

ได้เข้าร่วมการประชุมสัมมนารับฟังความคิดเห็นและข้อเสนอแนะของผู้มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องกับการแก้ไขปรับปรุง พรบ.
คุ้มครองพีนธุ์พืช พ.ศ. 2542
เมื่อวันที่ 16 มีนาคม 2559 ที่กรมวิชาการเกษตร อถิปรายกันยาว
คงต้องประชุมกันอีก

เรียน ทุกท่าน
ขณะนี้ สมาคมฯ ได้จัดพิมพ์ รายงานการประชุมทางวิชาการเมล็ดพันธุ์พืชครั้งที่ 12 จ.ลำปาง เสร็จแล้ว
เนื่องจากว่า ขนาดเล่มค่อนข้างหนา โดยมีจำนวนหน้าทั้งหมดประมาณ 450 หน้า และเพื่อเป็นการประหยัดค่าส่ง
สมาคมฯ จึงขอแจ้งให้ทราบว่า เมื่อใดที่ท่านได้เดินทางมา กทม หรือมาที่มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ ขอให้ท่านได้แวะมารับหนังสือได้ที่สมาคมเมล็ดพันธุ์แห่งประเทศไทย ห้อง 804 ชั้น 8 อาคารวชิรานุสรณ์ คณะเกษตร
ในกรณีเร่งด่วน และท่านไม่สามารถลงมารับรายงานด้วยตนเองได้ ขอได้แจ้งที่อยู่เพื่อจัดส่งทางไปรษณีย์ ต่อไป
